Attenuation/Damping
(Sound) attenuation or dampening is the decrease in the level of air-borne sound through absorption: A certain proportion of the sound waves is transformed into heat energy and thus “lost”.
Hearing (frequency) range
The hearing range of a young healthy person covers frequencies from ca. 20 Hz up to ca. 20,000 Hz. Sounds with frequencies below and above this range are not perceived by the human ear, which is most attuned to frequencies between 500 and 6,000 Hz.

Sound insulation
Sound insulation is the acoustic shielding of a room or device in order to prevent or reduce the transmission of air-borne or solid-borne sound to neighboring spaces. The aim is to prevent the sound from propagating by using sound insulation materials to build a sound barrier around the noise source.
Noise control
Equipping the room with noise control materials reduces the sound level (and hence the perceived noisiness) and improves speech intelligibility. Such an improvement of acoustic conditions makes for a much more pleasant atmosphere. Porous and fibrous materials such as open-cell foams or non-wovens are excellent sound absorbers. But also closed-cell foams with a special cell structure, for instance our soni RESIST, score with good sound absorption capacity.
